█████ MITCH CROSHER ██████
In the relatively short time of three years that he has been spinning decks, Mitch has established himself as one of the most brightest young talents to emerge from the dj scene.

Mitch first made his debut onto the scene at a number of infamous kick on parties which then lead him being booked at such club nights as Sunday school, the [box] and more recently at higher profile nights such as "the likes of you" at the civic hotel, SPICE and BUNKER after hours.

Mitch's style ranges from the European side of tech house, house, deep house and anything in between with a lot of groove to get the dance floor heaving. Mitch's tastes in music come from artists such as Luciano, Johnny D, Jimpster, Nic Fanciulli, Oxia, Lemos and Noir.

With an underlying love for music which can be seen through his enthusiastic sets Mitch can always be trusted to get the party started.

█████ ANT J STEEP (Music For Freaks, MELBOURNE) ██████

First up. I am not going to write this bio myself and pretend it was written by someone important. You will not find quotes such as "after discovering his dads Kraftwerk records at age two, Ant began playing at the local blue light disco" Bios like that are crap and mostly full of it. So here is a real bio written by myself.

I have been a dj for 10 years. My first gig was at the seminal Melbourne club nigh Purveyors at Lounge. Purveyors was all about playing a diverse blend of house, breaks, electro, hip hop, drum and bass and what ever else you could creatively present to a dance floor. I loosely stick to this ideal in my dj sets today.

Over the years I have been the resident dj at a few successful and respected clubs such as Lounge, Revolver and most importantly Honkytonks (where I was the Saturday resident for 5 years). I have played in all Australian cities and even played in South America.

Many djs like to put a list of international artist that they have played on the same bill as in their bios. I don't want to subscribe to being a cliché, but here is a list of the internationally known acts that I have ACTUALLY PLAYED ON THE MAIN STAGE WITH, not in some side room to two people because I told the promoter I would bring some mates. I am sure I have forgotten some

Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Steve Bug, Tom Clark, Damian Lazarus, 2 Many Djs, Felix Da Housecat, Scissor Sisters, Herbert, Layo and Bushwacka, Stacey Pullen, Maurice Fulton, Justin Harris, Luke Solomon, Spektrum, Jacob London, Miles Maeda, Martin Bros, DMX Crew, Chris Duckenfield, Jamie Liddel, DJ Garth, Charles Webster, Chatau Flight, Adam Freeland, Tom Middleton, Kaskade, Q Burns Abstract Message, Jacques Lu Cont, Swayzak, Ricardo Villalobos, Rasoul, Jason Hodges, Diz, James Curd, Jamie Thines, Dizzy, Midas, Inland Knights, Hippie, Halo, Lil' Mark, DJ Bailey, Storm, Peshay, Carl Cox, Ectomorph, Recloose, Dj Sneak, Les Rhythm Digitales, Junior Sanchez, Roger Sanchez, Chez Damier. Super Discount.

Besides this, my records have been charted and played by such djs as Pete Tong ( Essential Tune of the week) Tiefschwarz, Damian Lararus, Tiga, Derrick Carter, Andrew Weatherall, Mark Farina and Steve Bug

These days you can catch me play at Tramp on Fridays from 12 am til 2am. You can also catch my radio 'Beastie Bitz' show on kiss FM every Thursday from 11pm til 1230am (www.kissfm.com.au)

█████ BUTCH (Great Stuff, GERMANY) ██████

Chunky name, versatile and defined sound: BUTCH spent the past three years presenting us with a constant amount of high quality output ranging throughout the different genres of electronic dance music with such an ease and passion that he has made it to be one of the most sought-after names worldwide.

After various very successful productions and remixes for internationally renowned labels such as Trapez, AFU Limited and Great Stuff the debut album entitled „Papillon“ on the latter mentioned Munich based powerhouse in autumn 2008 seemed as the only logical next step. Butch saw this album as a possibility to present his love and rich amount of ideas for all spectra of dance music from pumping peak-time Techno via smooth Tech-House to minimalist deep sound experiments. Critically acclaimed, loved by DJs it exceeded all expectations by presenting us with a timeless club-classic for your home.

Similar to his intuition whilst playing on the dance-floor, his releases always grab the nerv and vibe of the moment and not only capture his audiences, but many DJs worldwide just as well. It comes as no surprise that Butch-releases such as „Mushroom Man“ (AFU-Limited), „Earth“ (Trapez) or „Amelie“ (Great Stuff) can be found in the playlists of prominent names such as Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Villalobos, Luciano and many others. Already his second release „On the Line“ was so successful it got him two nominations in the categories „Best Techno“ and „Best Remix Techno“ for the Beatport Music Awards 2007.

Butch's tour calender is filled to the brim with over 100 bookings a year and living proof of his abilities as a DJ. His gigs are responsible for his enormous amount of travelling within and outside of Germany and Europe and over the last two years he has accumulated a very impressive vitae including legendary club references such as Rex (Paris), Fabric (London), Cocoon (Frankfurt),Cocorico (Riccione), Flex (Vienna), or La Terrazza (Barcelona), which have all been intrigued by his sound.

The calender in 2009 has very exciting notes on the agenda for Butch: Besides his extensive tour through dozens of countries the first 6 months will include releases on the home-base labels AFU Limited, Trapez and Great Stuff as well as the dutch label Area Remote and the Mannheim-based House imprint 8Bit. Remixes for established artists such as 2000 and One, Thomas P. Heckmann, Daso & Pawas and Ramon Tapia will also hit the floors with such an energy that his name is more than set for the year.

Big on the plan is also the collaboration with his friend and studio partner AMIR (Trapez/8Bit) not only as A&R, but also as releasing artist on the new collective called „bouq.“. The label was founded together with their friends Sebastian Lutz, Caio Duncan and a few background helpers to establish a new platform for innovative music, quality promotion, fun events and bookings.

MATT WEIR (WHAM!, SYDNEY)
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
http://www.facebook.com/matt.d.weir?ref=ts
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
From a young age Matt had a diverse, almost eclectic taste in music, from reggae to rock, hip-hop to house, which turned into an eventual love of electronic music in all its forms. This love was cultivated in the late 90’s and turn of the century when Breaks and House, with rhythmic bass lines and epic vocals would keep the dance floors of The Underground, Globe and Yu filled, what seemed like every night of the week with parties like Funk Trust, Kink and Sounds on Sunday growing Matt’s desire to no longer sit on the sidelines.

So in 2005/2006 with good mate Dave, Matt decided it would be a good time to start mixing himself. They bought themselves a set of Technics 1200’s, a shitty 2-channel mixer, started amassing a collection of vinyl and thumping out whatever they could to wake the neighbours.

By the end of 2006 the pair were running their own parties and playing at clubs such as Mylk, (now Nevermind) Le Panic and locally in Coogee. Under the moniker Cartel they played a style of underground electro that was rare and refreshing which led to a Residency at Yu and regular appearances at Sydney’s finest venues, Moulin Rouge, Kink and Sounds On Sunday, supporting international DJ’s to the likes of Richard Dinsdale, The Freestylers, Funkagenda, Spencer Parker and Will Saul.

Matt then went out on his own and moved into a different deeper, tech house sound, honing his DJing skills whilst being influenced by producers such as Vincenzo, Simon Baker, Lauhaus, Shur-I-Kan, Shonky and Phonique.

Inspiration also came from local DJ’s such as Telefunken, Ben Morris, Murat Kilic, Shamus, Baz and Pete Nouveau for the way they consistently and enthusiastically approach music.

Eventually Matt would love to concentrate solely on writing and producing music, but until then, he can be found showcasing his unique sound at Sydney’s best underground nights including, Spice and at his residency at one of Sydney’s leading weekly parties WHAM! at The World Bar.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
DEAN MILSON (FFour, MELB)
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
http://www.myspace.com/deanmillson
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

While some artists may shy away from being labelled ‘progressive’ these days, Dean Millson is certainly not one of them. From the moment as a ten year old in 1986, when a pre-teenage interest in music (not unlike like most boys) was transformed into a lifetime passion upon accidentally tuning in a hip-hop show on Melbourne’s 3PBS, his appetite and appreciation for forward-thinking sounds has never really wavered.

Many years later, it was an encounter with the sounds of Laurent Garnier at Shed 14 in Melbourne’s revered docklands one morning late in 2000, where an interest in electronic music nurtured throughout the mid-nineties by the likes of Underworld, Depeche Mode, Cold Cut and Autechre, grew into a passion for sharing his love of music with others.

Rather than Techno however, it was the deep progressive house of John Digweed that quickly provided the inspiration for the musical direction that Dean would choose to explore first as a DJ. At a time when Melbourne’s progressive music scene was dominated almost exclusively by the likes of icons such as Sean Quinn, Kasey Taylor, Mark James & Chris Meehan, Dean decided to create a vehicle to give opportunities to a new wave of Melbourne’s up and coming DJ talent. On a very rainy Thursday between Christmas and New Year in 2001 in the side-room of Melbourne’s now infamous Salt Nightclub, Private Function was born. From those small beginnings, PF–as it affectionately became known–grew into a Melbourne institution, supporting Australia’s world-class talent such as Phil K, Luke Chable, Ivan Gough, Vance Musgrove, Rollin Connection (Darius Bassiray & Daniel Banko) and Steve May. Over the next five years, Private Function was also responsible for introducing Melbourne dancefloors to the sounds and talents of a number of international artists–hosting the inaugural Australian tours for the likes of Americans Steve Porter, Habersham along with Dutch ‘trouser’ Matthey Dekay.

As PF’s cemented itself as an integral part of Melbourne’s dance music community, so to did Dean. Following warm-up duties for the likes of Anthony Pappa and Chris Fortier he began to capture a dedicated following, playing a mixture of forward thinking progressive-house and breaks, eventually becoming a welcome addition to most of Melbourne’s bigger festivals and parties–supporting the likes of Sasha, John Digweed, Lee Burridge, Luke Fair, Dave Seaman and Paul Van Dyk–including opening the Global Underground room at the last ever Two Tribes electronic music festival in 2006.

It wasn’t only Melbourne that was warming to Dean’s sound however. A mini tour of New Zealand in 2004 saw him DJ alongside other Melbourne DJ’s such as Sean Quinn and Sam Fraser in both Wellington and Christchurch, and the following year he was invited to play during the 2005 Miami Winter Music conference, where he represented the Melbourne massive at a party hosted by UK label Heavy Rotation.

Come 2007 it could be said that things have come full circle for Dean. With his passion turning towards techno again, he was invited to support Laurent Garnier (in his first Australian tour since that seminal night at the docks almost seven years earlier) and a reinvented Robert Babicz (aka Rob Acid). The beginning of 2007 also saw the birth of a new concept from Dean–Pretty Simple–a new techno-focussed brand, developed in collaboration with inner city Melbourne club Ffour. Since launching with what was, at the time, arguably one of the strongest local lineups seen in Melbourne for many years, Pretty Simple quickly became Melbourne’s premier weekly purveyor of deep techy beats–hosting guests along the way so far such as Pig & Dan (SPN), Habersham (USA), A Guy Called Gerald (UK), Jona (GER), Konrad Black (CAN), 2000 & One (NDL) and Gaiser (CAN). It’s at Pretty Simple where you will generally find Dean holding court each Saturday night with the ever challenging closing set, digging deep and pushing his sound forward into the early hours of the
morning–progressive in the real sense of the word.

ROBBIE LOWE (proton, SYDNEY)
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Over his 15 year career behind the decks Robbie Lowe is undeniably one of Australia’s most talented and respected Deep & Tech-House to Progressive & Techno DJ’s.

If an international artist has come through Sydney over the past decade, Robbie has supported them at least once, and if a young DJ has made an impact on the Sydney’s underground house scene over the same time, Robbie may well have given them their start.

Robbie has been given props by some of the biggest names in dance music today, that include John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, James Zabiela & Danny Howells.

Overseas a two month stint in New York in 2004 seeing him play The Sullivan Room, Le-Souk and Dumboluna Festival under the Brooklyn Bridge, while a 2006 trip to London was highlighted with playing alongside Umek at the Turnmills.

In 2008 Robbie was the chosen warm-up DJ for Tiesto’s Sydney Elements Of Life Tour shows. Each show he played to a crowd of over 5000 people at Sydney’s Hordern Pavillion.

Also in 2008 he also took up the reins as part Label Manager & A&R for the UK-based Beat Code & Low Pressings record company’s, the latter of which has over twelve years history and lengthy back catalogue.

These new roles go hand in hand with Robbie’s new production focus – His union with Sydney progressive house producer gun Matt Rowan bore fruit through 2007/08 with releases on Hussle, Outta Limits and Rococo, and he’s recently tuned in another release with Rowan for Proton Music titled ‘Ground Swell’.

2009 so far has seen Robbie continuing is high profile supports including the recent ‘We Love Sounds’ festival, where Robbie played Armin Van Burren’s sold out Hordern Arena. Robbie also makes regular appearances at Spice, Shrug, Chinese Laundy, Deep As Funk & Colour events.

Add to this a forthcoming solo EP and remix work with fellow Sydney DJ Tim Culbert (with who he also compiles the highly acclaimed ‘Colour Mix’ series), showcasing the deeper side of house music.

VINCENZO (Dessous Pokerflat, Liebe Detail, BERLIN)
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
http://www.myspace.com/vincenzoragone
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

An artist who has such talent, style and longevity is a rare creature nowadays... and Italo-German Vincenzo Ragone, known to the House world as Vincenzo, is indeed one of these special creatures! Hard to track down and often a man of the night, Ragone has been casting his deep and truly one-of-a-kind takes on House and Techno out into the ether for well over a decade.

Vincenzo was a true child of the Acid House explosion, and one of an original cast of Hamburg based Djs and Producers, hanging out and collaborating with friends who would later become some of the trend setting icons of the present - notably Poker Flat's future ringmaster Steve Bug offered him some crucial gigs at the revered 'Reduced' parties at Hamburg's 'Front' Club!

From here on the star in the making went on to produce his first ever productions for the Raw Elements label, alongside Sandro Catallo in 1995, and then released his first ever solo tracks with the label in '97. His production energies began to draw him further and further into this magical music, which knew no bounds, and in 1998 Vincenzo released his debut album, the classic '1-800-Vincenzo,' on none other than the newly blossoming Dessous Imprint to great International applause.

Numerous solo and collaborative releases followed, notching up studio time in New York with Alexi Delano (aka A.D.N.Y), leading to the A.D.N.Y & Vincenzo project. Clearly picking up a heavy dose of those soulful, US House flavours that would never wash away... His year spent living in New York proved Vincenzo had real International appeal, and increased touring to play gigs in House Clubs stateside, as well as globally, confirmed this musical passion was meant to be.

His relationship with the funky yet stripped, Deep House movement continued through his enigmatic 'Strip Joint Grooves' series on Dessous, and also through further collaborations with San Francisco's Dj Rasoul, Nottingham's John Buckby aka Schmoov, Marc Schneider (aka Snider) and many, many more. Indeed his name and musical offerings continued to elevate and inspire, and recent releases and remixes on Dessous and Hamburg's Liebe*Detail records suggested a more mature, techy sound had sprouted from the seasoned house-head's mixing desk. 2007's notable remix for the Liebe*Detail offshoot label 'Spezial', a stunning re-think of a Move-D modern classic, 'Anne Will', won him notoriety for effortlessly transcending both the Deep House and Minimal Techno worlds.... creating a reduced beach party track that also had the power to deeply rock the clubs! Vincenzo racked-up a serious amount of air miles over his long and busy career (and he continues to do so!)

Vincenzo has worked with some of the most important producers and labels within his field of expertise, yet he maintains a humble existence, not wanting to over -play his part in the grand scheme of things. In fact, he shouldn't be so humble, as his records, both old and new, are consistently played and charted by a spectrum of Djs that most producers could only dream of... No surprise then that his most recent EP for Dessous, 'The Resident,' picked up big support from steve bug, laurent garnier, josh wink, ian pooley and sasse.only to name a few: proof once more that this traditionally-underground impresario of House is here to stay, and continues to share his unique sound with the world.

To celebrate SONAR week, we are podcasting you a mix from one of the most talented Producer/DJs on the circuit here in Australia. With a swag of new releases under his belt, Julian Beltzung aka DJ YokoO, now based in Brisbane delivers a smooth tech house mix.

We welcome hime with open arms as he grinds out a 3 hour set in The Bunker this Sunday at SPICE.

YokoO is not your typical Dj, he’s quite the antithesis of your stereotype then again he’s not your typical guy either.

Refreshingly humble yet quietly confident, gorgeous, inspiring, disciplined, fit and for what it’s worth technically brilliant.

Distinctive French rigueur with an adopted Australian nature, however his most apparent personal trait is his raging passion for music- giving it all the love that girls only dream about in a French lover!

YokoO is a relatively new face in Brisbane's clubs, though not without experience and a bag full of top shelf deep techno that will no doubt take you on a journey through the mind, leaving you nothing short of awe inspired!

His smooth melodic/minimal Productions complete the picture, also making good use of an intelligent ear for tonal and tribal deep tech.

His sound is evidently a recreation of his deeply spiritual relationship with technology and music.

Originally hailing from Strasbourg, France, YokoO has made good use of the short time he has been in Australia, playing on the major venue circuit of Family, The Met, Empire and Bar Soma in Brisbane, Platinum on the Coast, and Spice & Favela in Sydney to name a few. He also translates to the festival crowd, chosen to set up rooms at the Godskitchen and Global Gathering festivals.

With an array of fresh beats, a passionate thirst for new sounds and flawless mixing ability, YokoO has set the stage for his audience to join him on an all-encompassing journey of rhythm and music.
